Life, Love and Kids…Southern Style

Stormy Memorial Day May 31, 2004

Filed under: Family — southernmom @ 10:34 pm

It’s been a great long weekend for the most part. Hubs was off work today for the holiday so we were able to get out in the yard and do a little work (read: clean up after last night’s storm!). Yes, bad weather attacked here, too, but luckily we really didn’t have anything especially bad. My sister wasn’t so lucky…she called this morning from college, and a tree limb had fallen through her car’s sunroof! At least no one was hurt!

I finally got my ferns out and potted some plants we bought at Lowe’s last night. Maybe my house won’t look so dreary when they bloom! We spent the evening at my parent’s house grilling out. Chase had a ball, literally. Tim spent most of our time there lifting Chase up to the basketball goal over and over and over. With a two-year-old, “no” and “not right now” just aren’t in the vocabulary (but I can assure you that Rescue Heroes, Bob the Builder, and Wiggles are!).

Well, that’s it for my day! I’m off to watch the end of the West Wing marathon on Bravo.

Guilty Confession May 28, 2004

Filed under: Family — southernmom @ 12:01 pm

I have a confession to make. My toddler still sleeps with us. I’m not complaining per se because (here’s the guilty part) I love the closeness of being all snuggled up in our big family bed. Yep, I purposely allow him in our bed each night. Now here’s where it gets tricky. For about 5 months Chase has developed some 2-year-old style fetish with my hair. He has to have his hands in it at all times. I semi-understand this fetish, however I do not understand why I have to walk around 99% of the time sporting this whirly, bird’s nest hairdo at it’s expense, but I digress. Combine the family bed with the hair fetish and you get…..NO SLEEP FOR MOMMY!! I swear I was up every hour last night fighting with little chubby arms for control of my hair! I think it’s high time to reconsider our sleeping arrangements.

The things I get myself into May 26, 2004

So I spent the day with my mom making curtains for my friend’s new house. Yes, that’s not so bad you say. Did I mention my friend is in Florida on vacation? It’s just one of those things you volunteer to do, then regret immensely later. Oh, well.

Yesterday we went to my parent’s house (Chase *loves* it at Nana & Papa’s). We were having such a good time until Chase fell and hit his head on one of Nana’s concrete flower pots. Blood gushed down the side of his face and I just knew he had busted some blood vessel on his head. Luckily it clotted fast, and the little hard-headed thing ran off yelling back to me that he wanted some “MM’s.” He is *so* much like his daddy!

I’m still not over this damned cold/ear infection. It is pure misery to be sick in the summer. Speaking of summer…IT.IS.SO.HOT! It’s not even June yet, but this humidity is killing me. It’s always the humidity.

While I’m on a rambling spree, I can’t wait until they start to show Sex and the City next month on TBS. It will have to be a hoot to see how they cover the *ahem* language issue.

One last thing…Fantasia just won American Idol! I have to admit that I was a Diana fan, but Fantasia did an excellent job the whole way through. I’m glad it’s over!

Well, that was fun! May 24, 2004

I think it’s because I put that I rarely get sick on my 101 things list. What started out as a few sniffles turned into a full-blown “let me pierce my eardrum myself to let some of this pressure out” ear infection. Teamed up with the end of school, I was absolutely zonked all weekend. But, it’s good to be back. Now a few comments to make:

1. This whole Kaufman thing is utterly bizarre.

2. I finally saw Love Actually this weekend and couldn’t help but think that there was so much more they could have done with all of these great storylines. I guess that’s why I’m not in the movie biz.

3. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to plant between the rocks on my new flagstone patio? (I realize this is more of a question than a comment, but, you know, it’s gonna be ok)

4. You gotta check out American Girls Gone Wild (snagged from Melissa @ Suburban Bliss)

Have a fabulous Monday!

Why must you plague me
and leave me with one nostril?
You are a nuisance.

Bad day… May 17, 2004

You know how people say that you shouldn’t live with your best friends, that you’ll end up hating each other over something petty? Well today I realized that lovely piece of wisdom also applies to work: Don’t work in a team-style setting with a close friend. To make a long story short, the day ended with me bending over backwards to keep up appearances, but mentally counting down the days until summer break. Uggg…I hate days like this.

Here I am… May 15, 2004

Filed under: Family — southernmom @ 9:38 pm

Well, this is my first post…gotta start somewhere. Until I get this place up and running I’ll give you a little background info. My name is Charla, I’m married to my fabulous hubby [Southern Dad], and we have a 2 year old son, [Southern Boy].

I chose the name “and then you blink” on a whim, actually. I’m a sentimental sucker, and often think about how quick life passes by (I *still* can’t believe I’m already 28…but that’s another story). One night we were watching Cheaper by the Dozen (don’t judge – it’s cute), and Steve Martin’s character was watching one of his 12(!!!) children ride off to school and said he remembered teaching them how to ride their bike, and his wife said “yep, and then we blinked.” It just stuck with me. Before we know it we’re grown, our babies grow, and life goes on. My main goal in this blog is to remember the little things as they happen, and, well, to have a little fun along the way.

By the way, thanks to Daisyhead for hosting me!
